What We Pick Up for Recycling

Our commercial recycling program is designed for everyday office and retail materials that would otherwise end up in the trash.

With single‑stream collection, all allowable material goes into one bin – no sorting required at your property.

What’s Not Accepted

For safety and processing reasons, some materials – such as food‑soiled containers, certain plastics, electronics, and hazardous items – can’t go into commercial recycling containers.

Customers are asked not to place the following items in their garbage container: household chemicals, electronic waste (e.g., computer equipment), yard trimmings, hot ashes or coals, dead animals, and construction or demolition debris. These materials are prohibited due to safety and operational concerns. Chemicals and hot ashes pose a significant fire risk in collection vehicles. This includes paints and solvents.

Who Can Add Commercial Recycling

Commercial recycling is available only for our existing commercial waste collection customers. If we’re already servicing your building or business for trash pickup, we can evaluate your site, recommend the right recycling setup, and align the pickup schedule with your current routine.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Do I have to be a GW Services trash customer to get commercial recycling?

Yes, commercial recycling is only available to existing GW Services commercial waste collection customers. This allows us to coordinate routes and schedules so both services run smoothly at your property.

We offer both night and day options. In Downtown Houston, night recycling can run up to three times per week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). Day routes are available once or twice per week (Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday), depending on your needs and location.

No, our program is single‑stream, which means all acceptable recyclables go into one bin. We collect them from your curb or dock and deliver them to an off-site processing location, where they’re sorted and processed.

We accept clean cardboard, flattened beverage cartons, aluminum and steel cans, foil, plastic bottles and containers labeled #1–3, as well as mixed paper, office mail, newspapers, magazines, and paper bags.

We do not accept contaminated or soiled items such as dirty or greased boxes, food containers, or wet toilet paper, along with materials like glass, mirrors, light bulbs, plastic bags, Styrofoam, binders, ink cartridges, and batteries.

Keeping non-recyclable items out of the container helps reduce contamination and ensures recyclable materials can be properly processed.

If you’re already a GW Services commercial waste customer, contact us to discuss your property and current service. We’ll review your volume, recommend a recycling schedule, and provide the containers and guidelines your tenants or staff need to get started.
